Wildlife
The Gippsland Lakes and surrounding bushland are home to an extraordinary range of wildlife — many of them right on your doorstep.
Pelicans
Australian pelicans are a fixture of the Lakes Entrance waterfront. Watch them glide in at dusk or gather near the fishing co-op for an easy meal.
Dolphins & Whales
Bottlenose dolphins are regularly spotted in the Gippsland Lakes and at the entrance. Humpback whales also pass through during their annual migration along the coast.
Seabirds
From little terns to white-bellied sea eagles, the coastline and lakes attract a remarkable variety of seabirds year-round.
Kangaroos & Wallabies
Head out to Kalimna Park or the dunes at dusk and you'll often spot eastern grey kangaroos and swamp wallabies grazing at the edge of the bush.
Seals
Australian fur seals are occasionally spotted basking on rocks near the entrance or gliding through the clear waters of the Gippsland Lakes — a real treat for lucky visitors.

Ninety Mile Beach
One of the longest uninterrupted beaches in the world. Walk, swim, surf, or just sit and watch the waves roll in from Bass Strait.
The Entrance Walk
Step onto The Entrance Walk and follow a windswept coastal ribbon where turquoise waters meet wild heads of scrub — seals and dolphins often put on a show as you walk to the dramatic meeting point of the Gippsland Lakes and the Southern Ocean.
Lakes Entrance Aquapark
A massive inflatable obstacle course floating on the Gippsland Lakes — slides, climbing walls, and jumping platforms for all ages.
Boat Hire & Fishing
Hire a tinnie and explore the lakes at your own pace, or join a guided fishing charter. Bream, flathead, and snapper are all on the cards.
Kayaking & Paddleboarding
Glide through the calm waters of the Gippsland Lakes on a kayak or stand-up paddleboard. Hire gear locally or join a guided tour.
Kalimna Park Lookout
A short drive from town, the lookout at Kalimna Park offers sweeping views over the lakes, the entrance, and out to Bass Strait.

Black Swans
Bert & Ernie
The undisputed royalty of the waterfront. Bert and Ernie have been patrolling the inlet for years and have a habit of turning up whenever someone orders chips.

Maggie is the friendliest magpie you'll ever meet. She's been known to hop up on tables, steal the odd chip, and serenade the morning rush with her best warbling.
